Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day horticultural tasks.
- Manage and lead a team of gardeners to ensure efficient delivery of horticultural services.
- Maintain a positive relationship with departmental managers, staff members and the owners and directors, exceeding their expectations.
- Promote the existing standard operating procedures & services and maintain a professional image.
- Plan and organize work schedules.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and policies.
- Carry out seasonal gardening duties across the site including but not limited to the ornamental gardens, productive gardens, glasshouse, and wider landscape activities.
- Undertake the supervision of horticultural tasks including but not limited to grass cutting, edging, pruning, deadheading, training, weeding, planting, glasshouse maintenance, propagation, composting, staking, applying pesticides, producing and harvesting crops. Organic kitchen gardening.
- Comply with all current Health and Safety legislation.
- Undertake work related to development projects in the garden and wider landscape.
- Oversee/Manage seasonal gardeners/project workers as required.
Qualifications:
- Have a formal horticultural qualification.
- A minimum of two years of horticultural experience in tropical or Mediterranean regions.
- Have excellent knowledge about all aspects of propagation and cultivation.
- Have a proven track record of garden skills with attention to detail.
- Be competent in operating garden machinery.
- A good knowledge of plants, pruning, lawn care, pest and disease identification.
- Soft landscaping experience.
- Good character; Honest, hardworking, resourcefulness, and highly pragmatic.
- Friendly and polite with good liaison skills.
- Passionate and be able to inspire and motivate the existing staff.
- A flexible approach to work hours and be willing to provide occasional weekend cover.
